We don't talk about money...
...or is it?
We strive to keep our pricing transparent for our customers, and the question regularly arises: "Why are handmade coils so expensive?"
Well... expensive is always relative, first and foremost. But you should always keep the price/performance ratio in mind.
But first: What is the difference between handmade and industrial goods?
Machines will always lack one essential quality: sensitivity. With your fingers, you can feel when a sheath is wound too tightly or too loosely, when a wire is twisting, or the material is giving way. A machine continues to do its work undeterred.
The next compromise the machine has to make is precision. We coil builders can process wires with a cross-section the size of a human hair, but the machine can't. But it's precisely these wafer-thin wires that make the coils so unique, releasing even the finest flavor molecules from your liquid and conjuring up a distinctive flavor experience in your tank.
If love were an ingredient you could taste, I'd include that, too, but here, time is more noticeable. No, the coil doesn't need to mature, but it does need to be developed and perfectly tuned to achieve its full potential. Thus, Aenigma's handmade coils have undergone a long journey, countless puffs, and numerous adjustments before finally making it into the range. A wire of perfection.
About the quality
When it comes to quality, Aenigma makes no compromises.
We only use materials from domestic sources to ensure that only the best ends up in our glass.
In the industrial sector, cheap raw materials are often used, which compromises quality.
In addition to the mechanical production of windings, this often results in contamination that is hazardous to health and should not be inhaled. These include, for example, lubricant and coolant residues used in wire production and machine operation.
We thoroughly clean the wire before processing and the finished coils after production so that you receive a clean and safe product.
Are disposables or ready-made systems cheaper?
It may seem that way at first glance, but after a quick calculation it becomes clear that handmade coils can actually be significantly cheaper.
Let’s consider the following examples:
1. Disposable
A standard disposable e-cigarette costs an average of €8.90 and, according to the manufacturer, lasts for about 600 puffs. (However, it's usually much less.) Assuming average use of about 300 puffs per day, the disposable e-cigarette ends up in the trash after two days.
31 days / 2 days per device = 15.5 devices per month (=137.95€)
We're assuming an optimum of 600 strokes per device. However, practice shows that this usually stops after 400-500 strokes.
2. Ready-made coil evaporator
Pre-built coil atomizers are subject to similar rules as self-winding atomizers. Coil replacement depends heavily on the liquid used, your vaping habits, and the wattage used. Assuming a lifespan of 1500 puffs and 300 puffs per day, which is roughly average, and a cost of €3.90 per replacement coil, the calculation looks like this:
31 days / 5 days (1500 puffs) = 6.2 replacement coils per month (=24.18€)
Already significantly cheaper than disposables, but it can be even cheaper!
3. Handmade coils
High-quality, handcrafted coils may be expensive to purchase initially, but they are significantly more durable. Typically, you can expect a coil to last about 3-4 months without any problems. In the following example, we'll be fair and assume 3 months of use, which is entirely realistic, and the highest price in the store of €15.
3 months/15€ = 5€ per month usage costs.
Promised too much?
One final argument against pre-made vaporizers and disposables: the resulting waste. Blister packs, protective sleeves, metal, and in the case of disposable e-cigarettes, even the entire device, including the battery, remaining tank contents, and packaging, end up in the trash. Furthermore, the material is only partially recyclable and therefore anything but sustainable.
As you can see, handmade coils are not only cheaper, but also significantly more environmentally friendly. If you'd like to learn more about what we at Aenigma are doing to protect the environment, please take a look >here .
